The day I broke my Radio duck!

SAHD Panel Today FM

Holy Feckin Moly !!!!

The reaction to my appearance on The Anton Savage Show on TodayFM last Thursday (25th Aug ’16) has been nothing short of phenomenal. Thank you to every single one of you who has sent in messages & tweets of support – so much so in fact that, it’s Saturday night and I’m still replying to the last of them now. Phouie Douiee 🙂

So here’s my take on the whole shabang on how I broke my radio duck ….

On the 10th Aug I received an email from Eimear in TodayFM saying due to the incoming paternity law changes (in Ireland), they wanted put together a panel of SAHD’s and she found me online (on FB – which makes sense as I’ve done absolutely zero work on SEO – bad me I know, but come on, I’m looking after the two nips F/T and the tiny bit of time I get to myself I absolutely bend over backwards to drink wine & concentrate on creating new content for The Stented Papa 🙂 !!).

‘In my research into it, I spotted your blog, and I wanted to check in with you to see if you might be interested in joining us on the show?’

Does a bear shit in the woods or what?! I was in like Flynn – hell yeah. Just tell me where and when and I’ll be there with feckin bells on.

I actually got there early. Eimear advised to arrive at around 9.15am and we’d be in with Anton from about 9.30am & would be finished around 10am. And she was spot on.

I was one of two SAHD’s on the panel. Ciaran O’Brien was the other dad. We were both early actually and got chatting about all things Dad & SAHD in particular. Eimear then came over to tell us we’d be going into Anton soon and a few minutes later we were shaking hands with Anton and getting settled in.

Immediately he put us at ease. Very professional but very easy to chat with. When he saw me he said ‘Now that is some beard!‘,  we just started chatting as normal and then we were live.

The 25/30 mins we were in there seemed like 5 mins, it literally flew by. At times I’d forgotten I was live on national radio cause it just felt like a normal chat. I thought Anton’s questions and they way he conducted the interview was excellent. He really gave us time to answer the questions & for me that’s a sign of how good he is. It was a relaxed, well conducted piece of radio on a topic that thankfully is becoming more mainstream (about time right, like it is the 21st century after all) and truthfully I was delighted to be part of that.

In fact, it’s really given me a massive boost and has really made me want to be a voice for SAHD’s and why it’s such a good thing to do. I really want to get that message out there and I’ve a serious  goo on me to do exactly that. I mentioned on the show that I wanted to put a SAHD’s group together and that is now my No 1 priority. Watch this space folks!

Lastly, I told Anton about the Elle using my beard as a scratching post. Well Mia also got in on the action and we put a short video together of it. TodayFM only went back and amended their post about the interview and included the video – that was a touch of class, thanks guys!

I’ve also taken a mental note to just give my website address immediately when I’m asked as Anton did at the end of the interview and big balls here decided to waffle and spell it out instead of just saying ‘www.thestentedpapa.com’ – feckin eejit!

Yeah I was thinking the same (about being found!) so happy days! It’s funny, because I’ve done absolutely zero SEO work on my site yet (bad me I know!). It shows you the many benefits of social media as they’ve done the SEO work for you!! It was so cool to have done it. Hopefully it won’t be too long before it happens again! Thanks for commenting, regards, Ross #dreamteam

Meself & The Missus got married last Wednesday so it’s my first time back on the blog in about a week (which is also why I’ve not linked up with you guys this week). But I’ll be back next week as I’ve a few blogs on the boil. So glad you liked the interview & scratching post video.
